A one-time community micro-grant program run by Digital Justice Lab and Tech Reset Canada.
With Tech Reset Canada, Digital Justice Lab ran Centre for Digital Rights’ first community grant program focused on digital rights and literacy in Canada. The program offered community leaders and groups a grant for public education and projects ranging from art to training and workshops.
The community grant program was open and accessible to diverse communities across Canada and focused on themes such as: consent, accessibility, data collection and ownership use, as well as digital inclusion, freedom of expression, equitable internet access, labour, privacy and security, participation and openness.
By November 2018, Centre for Digital Rights had received 146 grant applications and accepted 42 ideas on how to advance digital rights and literacy. This included works by emerging scholars, artists, activists and stakeholders in digital literacy education who convened citizens, shared resources and built capacity in their communities. In the evaluation survey, eighty per cent of respondents said they would continue with their project beyond the grant.
